Mostly notes on early settlers of Buffalo, including Ezekiel Lane, Martin Middaugh, Jesse Skinner, Capt. Robert Haine, and others, and on Red Jacket and the Seneca Indians. Includes a letter from James A. Granger, 3 June 1847, concerning his father, Erastus Granger, and one from Nathaniel Howell, 9 July 1847, regarding the 1803 trial of Stiff-Armed George for the murder of John Hewitt. Carpenter's history was apparently never written.
